The South African Navy has placed orders with Oto Melara for the procurement of additional 76/62mm Super Rapid medium-calibre automatic gun mounting spares.

The 76/62mm Oto Melera cannon is used by the navy on its Valour Class frigate and Warrior Class offshore patrol vessels.

The dual-purpose gun system is capable of launching a 6kg projectile up to 8,000m at a rate of 120 rounds a minute and can engage surface and air targets.

The navy has also placed requested for ‘expertise’ related to the gun and a training course, Defenceweb reported the Armscor Bulletin System as saying.
