The US Navy has concluded Exercise Trident Warrior 2011 (TW 11) aboard USS Wasp (LHD 1) off the coast of Virginia, US.

During the exercise, 70 planned experiments involving testing new technologies, tactics and procedures were completed with participation from Wasp crew and engineers from US Fleet Forces Command and Naval Postgraduate School.

The exercise was conducted to explore the feasibility of using a computerised ‘brain’ to enhance the vessel’s capabilities in protecting ships within foreign harbours and ports.

Research and experiments, including the testing of artificially controlled unmanned surface vessels and sensory interoperability between joint military aircraft, were also conducted.

TW is conducted every year to assist the war fighter in combating threats of terrorism on the high-seas and cyber attacks as well as to build upon existing systems.

The planning stages of Trident Warrior 2012 have already started.
