General Dynamics (GD) Land Systems has been awarded a contract to produce 33 light armoured vehicles (LAV-A2) in various configurations for the US Marine Corps (USMC).

The LAV-A2 is used by USMC to carry out offensive and defensive operations in support of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force.

The eight-wheeled amphibious vehicle is equipped with enhanced armour protection, an automatic fire-suppression system and robust suspension for improved mobility.

Production under the $42m contract will be performed at the company’s facility in London and Ontario, US, with completion expected by December 2012.
