The US Navy has awarded a modified contract to General Dynamics (GD) Nassco to support an extensive renovation and modernisation of landing ship dock (LSD 49) USS Harpers Ferry.

The $24.4m modified contract has a total estimated value of $100m and is part of the fiscal year 2011 extended docking phased maintenance availability (EDPMA).

Modifications under the contract will include alterations and repairs as well as inspection and testing all of the ship’s systems and components.

Work is expected to be completed by July 2012.
