General Atomics Systems Integration has been awarded a firm fixed-price requirements contract by the US Navy to modify the E-6B Mercury fleet.

Under thae contract, the company will provide kit and spare lighter brakes, wheels, radial tires and a brake temperature monitoring system for the E-6B fleet.

General Atomics Systems Integration will conduct engineering analysis and qualification testing, develop design changes and perform integration to modify and incorporate the new design.

The E-6B is a communications relay for the US Navy fleet of submarines and a strategic airborne command post aircraft.

The dual-mission aircraft is equipped with an airborne launch control system, which is capable of launching US land-based intercontinental ballistic missiles.

Messier-Bugatti-Dowty will be the principal subcontractor for supplying the wheels, carbon brakes, and the brake temperature monitoring system sensors.

Work is expected to be completed by September 2015.
