BAE Systems has received a delivery order to provide 519 marine corps gunner protection systems (MGPS) for the medium tactical vehicle replacement and the high-mobility multiwheel vehicle (HMMWV), which will support US Navy requirements.

The MGPS, also known as the marine corps transparent armoured gun shield (MCTAGS) system, will provide enhanced situational awareness to the warfighter on the battlefield.

The gunner protection system kits further enhance survivability with improved target acquisition capability and protection from small arms fire and improvised explosive device (IED) fragments.

Of the 519 gun protection systems, the medium tactical vehicle replacement will receive 135 systems while the HMMWV will receive 384 systems.

Work on the $18m contract will be carried out at the company’s facility in Kentucky and Ohio, US, with deliveries to be complete by the end of the year.
