The Defense Security Cooperation Agency has notified US Congress of a potential foreign military sale of 32 mk54 all-up-round lightweight torpedoes to India.

Under the estimated $86m sale, India has also requested three recoverable exercise torpedoes, one training shape, containers, spare and repair parts, support and test equipment and associated training and logistical support.

The torpedoes will be used on the Indian Navy’s P-8I Neptune maritime patrol aircraft, which will provide enhanced capabilities in effective defence of critical sea lines of communication.

Boeing and a yet-to-be-identified US torpedo contractor will be the prime contractors.
