The UK Royal Navy’s Cougar 11 task group and Saudi Arabia are participating in an eight-day exercise, Red Alligator, near the Arabian Peninsula.

The task group includes HMS Albion, the escort frigate Sutherland, amphibious support ship RFA Cardigan Bay and tanker RFA Wave Knight.

The navy warships practised maritime security / counter-piracy operations, and counterterrorism missions alongside Saudi Marine forces for the first two days.

Red Alligator also includes full-scale amphibious assault operations that involve beach reconnaissance, landing craft training and live firings.

The joint exercise will conclude with a simulated joint assault operation against a target on land.
