The Australian Government has issued a tender for a five-year contract for the repair and maintenance of the Royal Australian Navy’s eight Anzac Class frigates, Defence Materiel Minister Jason Clare has said.

The government has short-listed four companies including BAE Systems, Babcock / UGL Infrastructure, Thales Australia, and DMS Maritime / Transfield Services for the $300m contract.

According to the tender, each maintenance activity is contracted individually to companies who compete for the work.

The eight Anzac Class frigates were launched between 1996 and 2001 and are equipped with a 127mm main gun, Sea Sparrow surface to air missiles and can each embark an anti-submarine helicopter.
