The delivery follows a contract signed by the two countries in January 2004 for the supply of 12 single-seat MiG-29Ks and four two-seat MiG-29KUBs.
The contract is part of a $1.5bn deal to deliver the Admiral Gorshkov aircraft carrier for the Indian Navy, which is currently being retrofitted in Russia.
The fighter jets will be based at an airfield in Goa, India, until the aircraft carrier joins the navy in early 2013.
The carrier is expected to carry up to 24 MiG-29K / KUB fighters.
