The US Naval Sea Systems Command has awarded a firm-fixed-price modification contract to Sierra Nevada Corporation for the procurement of 360 dismounted counter radio-controlled improvised explosive device electronic warfare (CREW) systems.

The $38.5m contract will also provide support to the dismounted joint CREW (JCREW) systems to be used by forces in each of the military services of the central command area of responsibility.

The JCREW are electronic jammers designed to prevent the induction of radio-controlled improvised explosive devices.

Work will be carried out at the company’s facility in Nevada, California, US, and is expected to be complete by December 2011.
