General Dynamics (GD) Bath Iron Works has been awarded a cost-plus-fixed-fee contract to provide additional class services to the US Navy Zumwalt Class (DDG 1000) destroyer.

Under the $18.8m modification contract, the company will provide services that are associated with the detail design and construction of the destroyer.

The company will provide technical and industrial engineering in the interpretation and application of the detailed design to support the construction and maintenance of a safe and operable ship design.

The Zumwalt Class destroyers are designed for multirole missions that include surface warfare, anti-aircraft and naval fire support.

Work will be performed at the company’s facility in Bath, Maine, US, and is expected to be completed by July 2011.
