The Iranian Navy is planning to equip its submarines with indigenous missile launching systems due to submarine limitations for firing torpedoes, Iranian Army Lieutenant Commander Rear Admiral Farhad Amiri has said.

“To fire a missile from a submarine, the target and missile-launch specifications should be sent to the submarine very fast, and this communication technology is currently being developed,” he added.

The navy has plans to equip submarines and other Iranian subsurface vessels within the next two years.

Iran launched four light and advanced Ghadir Class submarines last year, which are capable of evading detection and can fire missiles and torpedoes simultaneously.
