The Indonesian Navy has successfully test fired the Yakhont anti-ship missile during naval exercises in the Indian Ocean, according to an Indonesian News Agency.

Launched from Van Speijk Class frigate Oswald Siahaan, the Russian-made anti-ship missile took six minutes to cruise 250nm and destroy the target.

Navy spokesman Rear Admiral Iskandar Sitompul reportedly said the target ship was hit by the missile and sank during the test.

The missile, which is expected to replace Harpoon missiles on Indonesian frigates, has a maximum range of 300km while travelling at high altitudes, according to RIA Novosti.

The Yakhont missile can fly between 5m and 15m in altitude and at low levels during the terminal phase.
