South Korea and the US will conduct an anti-invasion drill on Baengnyeong Island near the Yellow Sea next month in response to North Korea’s construction of a hovercraft base.

Special troops from the two allies along with US Apache attack helicopters are expected to participate in the drill.

Seoul will also conduct a large-scale landing drill intended to hone combat capabilities next month at Pohang.

About 3,000 marines, and navy ships and air force jets are expected to participate in the landing drill, according to Agence France Presse.

North Korea’s hovercraft base at Goampo is likely to house some 70 hovercraft and is expected to be completed in June.
