Russia’s Baltic Sea fleet large amphibious ship, the Minsk, will participate in the Baltops-2011 (Baltic operations) annual naval exercises to be held in the Baltic Sea in June this year.

Baltops-2011 will involve surface ships, submarines and naval aviation of 14 countries, including Russia, according to Bernama.

The active phase of the exercises will include training the ships to hit air and sea targets, manoeuvre in a squadron of warships and communication skills.

The exercises will also include search and destroy of a submarine of a notional enemy, ship inspections and a joint exercise to learn how to counteract terrorism at sea.
