The Taiwanese Navy has deployed a fleet of ten domestically built missile boats at the north-eastern naval base in Suao, Taiwan.

Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou inaugurated the squadron of missile boats that are intended to counter the perceived Chinese military threat.

Each of the 171t vessels is armed with four locally built Hsiungfeng II (Brave Wind) ship-to-ship missiles.

The boats are intended to replace the aging 50t Seagull Class missile boats, according to Agence France Presse.
