Iran is set to open a new production line for domestically manufactured cruise missiles, Iranian Defence Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi has said.

“Iran’s Defence Ministry will unveil important arms, marine, aerospace and electro-optic achievements in the new Iranian calendar year (started on 21 March),” he added.

The missiles, to be developed by Iranian experts, are capable of detecting and destroying a range of targets at sea.

The navy recently successfully test fired a range of powerful missiles including surface-to-air mid-range Hawk missiles, according to the Fars News Agency.

Iran has attained self sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems for the defence sector in recent years.
