The Chilean Navy has taken delivery of its first Airbus Military C295 anti-submarine warfare (ASW) aircraft.

The new C295, certified by the Spanish certification and military airworthiness authority INTA, is the first ASW aircraft designed and certified in Europe to enter service.

The aircraft features a comprehensive suite of sensors including search radar, digital avionics compatible with night-vision goggles, automatic identification system, acoustic system, and a magnetic anomaly detector.

The Chilean Navy placed an order for three aircraft in October 2007 to replace the ageing P-3 Orion or Bréguet Atlantic fleets.

The latest variant can be deployed to perform transport logistics, medical evacuation or surveillance missions.
