The Chinese Navy has developed its combat capabilities in distant waters, countering non-traditional security threats, a white paper on the country’s national defence has said.

The white paper also reported that the navy had intensified the modernisation of its integrated combat forces and enhanced its capabilities in strategic deterrence and counterattack.

“It seeks to further improve its combat capabilities through regularised and systematic basic training and actual combat training in complex electromagnetic environments,” the white paper added.

China has been participating in joint drills to develop training models for military-operations-other-than-war missions (MOOTW), according to Xinhua News Agency.

According to the white paper, the navy has deployed new types of submarines, frigates, aircraft and large support vessels as planned.
