Raytheon has been awarded a firm-fixed-price contract to provide reeling machine test bench (RMTB) intermediate level equipment, ancillary RMTB equipment and logistics services in support of the MH-60R AN/AQS-22 airborne low-frequency sonar (ALFS).

The AN/AQS-22 ALFS is the primary undersea warfare (USW) sensor of the MH-60R multimission helicopter.

The system enables the US Navy MH-60R helicopter to perform USW missions of submarine detection, tracking, localisation and classification, as well as acoustic intercept, underwater communications and environmental data acquisition.

Work on the $11.8m contract will be carried out at the company's facility in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, US, and is expected to be complete in April 2013.

The US Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division is the contracting activity.
