Under Project Sea 1448 Phase 4A, the frigate’s electronic support system will be upgraded to improve its ability to support the Royal Australian Navy’s future air warfare destroyer capability.
The upgraded system will also provide the frigates with the ability to detect, classify and locate the latest maritime and aircraft radars, and modern anti-ship missiles.
The government is likely to finalise the approval for the project in the 2012 to 2013 period with costs capped between $100m and $300m.
