Northrop has delivered the 2,000th Viper laser to the US Navy ahead of schedule.

Viper is a small, lightweight multi-band laser designed to protect rotary-wing aircraft, large transport aircraft and fast jets from IR-guided missiles.

The system automatically detects a missile launch and activates a high-intensity laser-based countermeasure system to track and defeat the missile.
