The Iranian Navy is planning to deploy warships and a destroyer to the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea in the near future, navy deputy commander Rear Admiral Gholam-Reza Khadem Bigham has confirmed.

“Two or four ships always participate in naval missions, one or two of which are warships and the other is a logistics ship,” he added.

The fleet of warships will enter the Red Sea during the mission and will then be dispatched to the Mediterranean Sea.

The fleet would gain good intelligence and information of the regions it is due to visit during the mission, which would last for a year.

The Iranian Navy has expanded its presence in the region with ships currently present in the Gulf of Aden and Bab-el-Mandeb Strait.
