BAE has been awarded a contract to equip ten US Navy littoral combat ships (LCS), which will be built by the Lockheed-led team, with 57mm mk110 gun systems.

The company will also provide a digital fire control system to enable the mk110 to accurately fire 220 rounds a minute of the highly lethal 57mm mk295 ammunition at ranges of up to nine miles.

The 57mm mk295 is a six-mode programmable, pre-fragmented and proximity-fused (3P) ammunition that allows the system to perform against aerial, surface or ground threats without multiple round types.

Work on the task order will take place at the company’s facilities in the US and Sweden.
