NPO Machine Building Military Industrial Corporation chief designer Alexander Leonov said that the missiles would be supplied to all three Indian armed forces, though the value of the contract was not disclosed.
“If India intends to acquire new Russian non-atomic submarines, the Rubin Central Design Bureau for Marine Engineering will prepare variants to be equipped with the Brahmos missiles,” he said.
“The submarine-launched version of Indo-Russian BrahMos is in the very advanced stage of development.”
Russia will offer the Amur-1650 submarine for the tender and expects to equip the submarines with the tubes for launch from underwater positions.
The BrahMos missile has a range of 290km and can carry a conventional warhead of up to 300kg and is capable of hitting ground targets flying at an altitude as low as 10m.
The Indian Navy has plans to acquire six non-atomic submarines with a standard power plant and will soon float a tender for the same.
