The Iranian Navy has become self-sufficient in the production of torpedoes and other shore-to-sea and sea-to-sea missiles, according to Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari.

The country’s naval force has expanded its missions further seaward due to increasing piracy in the Gulf of Aden and Bab-el-Mandeb Strait around the Horn of Africa, deploying submarines, destroyers and frigates.
The Iranian Navy has also successfully test-fired an assortment of naval missiles that include the Nasr, Nour, Saeqeh, Fajr III and Fajr V, using laser technology during drills in the Persian Gulf earlier this year.
The missiles have high precision and a range of 45-300km, according to Press TV.
Sayyari said the Islamic Republic’s navy has been upgrading its military equipment since the end of the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war.
He also said the nation was ready to cooperate with its neighbours to provide security for the region’s strategic waterways.
