Iran plans to launch an indigenous, more advanced destroyer in the Caspian Sea, Iranian Navy Commander Seyed Mahmoud Mousavi said.

Mousavi said the destroyer was under construction at the Shaheed Tajvidi Industrial Complex in the port city of Bandar Anzali.

The vessel will be fited with more advanced naval equipment than Iran’s first home-made destroyer, Jamaran.

“At present, the equipments are being mounted onto the destroyer, and effort has been made to optimise its equipments in comparison with those used in Jamaran,” he added.

The destroyer will be used in the Caspian Sea to establish peace and security in Iran’s Northern waters, according to the Fars News Agency.

The Jamaran is a Mowdge-class vessel, with a displacement capacity of 14,000t. It is equipped with modern radars, electronic warfare capabilities and a variety of anti-ship, surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles.
