The US Navy has awarded a contract to Raytheon for the production and delivery of critical components of the Aegis weapons system for Arleigh Burke Class destroyers.

Under the $240m contract, Raytheon will provide production, engineering and support services for four ship sets of the AN/SPY-1D(V) radar transmitter group and mk99 mod 8 fire control system.

The radar and fire control systems are essential components that enable the weapon system to track and defend against multiple threats and attacks from planes and missiles.

Production will be carried out at the company's facilities in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, US, and at the Integrated Air Defense Center, Massachusetts, US.

The AN/SPY-1 and the mk99 are currently installed on the US Navy's fleet of Ticonderoga Class cruisers and Arleigh Burke Class destroyers, as well as on Japanese Kongo Class destroyers and Spanish F100 Class frigates.
