Boeing has submitted a proposal for the concept definition and programme planning phase of the next-generation Aegis missile (NGAM) to the US Missile Defense Agency (MDA).

The MDA is expected to award multiple NGAM contracts in 2011, with deployment scheduled for 2020.

The NGAM is a key component of the phased adaptive approach for missile defence in Europe, providing defence against emerging longer-range ballistic missile threats.

Boeing has set up a programme office for NGAM operations and will begin developing the advanced defence capability.
