The $189.2m planned contract modification will fund additional design, planning and system integration activities and analysis.
Gerald R Ford Class engineering and CVN 79 construction vice-president Mike Shawcross said the contract modification was essential to continuing the ship design to support construction.
“Now that the design is in the 3D product model, our engineering and planning effort is focused on the production of instructions for the shops and ship assembly,” he said.
The Gerald R Ford Class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier ship platform features enhanced flight deck, improved weapons handling systems and a redesigned island.
