India will test launch the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from the navy’s Project 11356 frigate in early 2011 in the Baltic Sea, BrahMos Aerospace joint managing director Alexander Maksichev has said.

“Cruise missile BrahMos will be tested during the ship’s sea trials in the Baltic early next year,” he said.

Maksichev added that it was difficult to confirm a precise time for the trials due to unpredictable weather conditions in the Baltic sea, but that weapon system installation and commissioning was on schedule.

The Yantar shipyard in Kaliningrad is building three Project 11356 frigates for the Indian Navy, the first of which will start sea and mooring trials soon, according to Brahmand.
