DCNS, Frances Naval shipyard, has ordered Sigma 40XP inertial navigation systems from Sagem for its new Suffren Class nuclear attack submarines as part of the Barracuda programme.

The Sigma 40XP navigation system features advanced technologies such as laser gyros and sophisticated digital filtering.

The navigation system plays a crucial role for successful tactical missions and in high-precision navigation in close quarters and weapon systems, including the planned Scalp naval cruise missile.

The system is fitted on a number of surface vessels and submarines deployed by around 30 navies worldwide.
