Lockheed Martin, BAE Systems, CAE, L3 Technologies, MDA and Ultra Electronics have formed a new Combat Ship Team in support of the Royal Canadian Navy’s (RCN) future fleet of surface combatants.
The newly formed consortium has confirmed the delivery of its proposal for the Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC) programme.

Its announcement was made two days prior to the procurement closure date and signifies that the acquisition has moved to the next major phase.
The Combat Ship Team intends to provide the RCN with the most advanced and upgraded warship design, the Type 26 Global Combat Ship (GCS), which is expected to feature the latest high-tech platforms currently delivered by Canadian companies.
The solution also includes the indigenously developed combat management system, CMS 330.
BAE Systems Canada Country Director Anne Healey said: “The Type 26 GCS is a flexible, next-generation warship design, which offers a low-risk and affordable solution for the CSC programme.

The team intends to focus on delivering the right vessel to the Canadian Navy in order to exceed the project’s baseline requirements with minimal change.
In addition, the Combat Ship Team will ensure a successful programme execution by bringing together a pan-Canadian consortium that is well equipped to efficiently carry out the CSC project.
The team also aims to have the CSC solution and capability developed domestically with involvement from Canadian industries.
