The US Navy has awarded a five-year Force Protection-Medium (FP-M) boats contract to Lake Assault Boats.

Under the indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract, the company is required to deliver a total of 119 FP-M patrol boats to the US Navy.

The contract has a value of $56m, with deliveries expected to commence in November this year.

The FP-M patrol boats will be deployed by the US Navy to safeguard its ships and personnel from threats arising at navy ports across the globe.

Specifically, the vessels will be used to conduct Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection patrols that include patrolling, interrogate other sea platforms and escort large vessels.

The boats are designed to perform missions day and night under a range of weather and water conditions.

Lake Assault Boat operations vice-president Chad DuMars said: “We are honoured to be chosen by the US Navy to supply it with these versatile and powerful FP-M patrol craft.

“Our FP-M vessels will be engineered and built to the same high manufacturing and quality control standards as our patrol and fireboats currently in service throughout North America.”

Equipped with Twin 225-hp outboard motors, the 33ft-long boats have a 10ft beam, aluminum V-hull with a polyurethane foam collar wrap and a fully-loaded cabin.

The vessels feature four weapon mounts and hold the capacity to accommodate up to .50 calibre machine guns.

DuMars added: “Our selection, after a long and rigorous competitive bid process, represents a significant accomplishment for Lake Assault Boats and our sister company, Fraser Shipyards.

“Our entire team is very excited and prepared to provide these boats to serve with the US Navy.”
