BAE Systems has introduced the Sea Tridon, a modular 40mm naval gun system, at the Euronaval 2026 defence exhibition in Paris.
The system forms part of a wider family that includes the Sea Tridon C, Sea Trinity and Bofors 40 Mk4 Naval Gun.

In a 3 November release, BAE Systems said that the common architecture allows operators to select different levels of sensor integration, fire-control capability and deployment flexibility while retaining shared training, logistics and support arrangements.
All four systems use the Bofors 40mm gun and 3P programmable ammunition. The ammunition can be configured before firing and has six programmable fuze modes for engaging air, surface and shore-based targets, according to the company.
The standard Sea Tridon pairs the 40mm gun with an integrated electro-optical fire-control system, a configuration designed to enable independent operation and streamline vessel integration.
Sea Tridon C is a containerised version designed for rapid installation on military, government or commercial vessels that require temporary or mission-specific protection.
Sea Trinity is the family’s most integrated configuration. It combines the Bofors 40mm gun, 3P ammunition and radar-based fire control in a close-in weapon system designed to counter missiles, drones and other high-speed threats.
The Bofors 40 Mk4 is a compact naval gun intended for integration with ship combat systems. It is designed to provide protection against air and surface threats, according to BAE Systems.
BAE Systems Bofors president Lena Gillström “The maritime threat landscape is evolving rapidly, creating a growing need for flexible and effective protection solutions.
“With the Sea Tridon, navies and maritime operators can select the capability level that best meets their operational needs while benefiting from a common platform, proven technology and advanced programmable ammunition.”
The Sea Tridon family is being displayed at the BAE Systems stand, E30, during Euronaval 2026.
