Notably, the number of cybersecurity-related patent applications in the aerospace, defence & security industry was 136 in Q2 2024, versus 183 in the prior quarter.
The top five companies accounted for 39% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Thales filed the most cybersecurity patents within the aerospace, defence & security industry in Q2 2024. The company filed 29 cybersecurity-related patents in the quarter, compared with 11 in the previous quarter. It was followed by CEA with 10 cybersecurity patent filings, Agency For Defense Development (6 filings), and RTX (4 filings) in Q2 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by the US with a 35% share of total patent filings
The largest share of cybersecurity related patent filings in the aerospace, defence & security industry in Q2 2024 was in the US with 35%, followed by France (14%) and China (7%). The share represented by the US was 1% lower than the 37% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
