Sener Announce Software Contract

The Spanish company Sener Ingeniería y Sistemas has closed a contract with UK-based BAE Systems PLC for the licence to use the FORAN CAD/CAM System in their shipbuilding activities. According to the contract, FORAN can be implemented in any BAE Systems Group company, any member of the Aircraft Carrier Alliance as well as in any subcontractor of the above companies.

FORAN is currently implemented at the following BAE Systems Group companies:

  • BAE Systems Submarine Solutions, Barrow-in-Furness
  • BAE Systems Surface Fleet Solutions Limited, Scotstoun, Glasgow

BAE Systems will use the FORAN System as a strategic business application for support and further improvement of the ship design, construction and integration activities at their shipbuilding sites in UK. Efficiencies gained by using FORAN in the design and manufacturing processes will result in costs savings and improved planning and product quality.

As a first result of the contract, about 200 licences have been installed at both sites. These licenses are currently being used for developing the different stages of the CVF project as well as for internal training.

Other services to be provided by Sener include training, customisation, on-site and remote technical assistance, as well as the development of interfaces between FORAN and existing Business Systems.

Luis Garcia, General Manager of Marine Business Unit of Sener, commented: “This is a significant win for Sener and recognises our continued effort in improving shipbuilding specific CAD/CAM tools. The award presents an excellent opportunity for long term planning which will give our business real benefits. We look forward to working in partnership with BAE over the coming years.”
