Needham, MA, US and Madrid, Spain — The Product Development Company® (PTC; Nasdaq: PMTC), and Sener today announced plans to strengthen their alliance to deliver an integration between Sener’s FORAN system and PTC’s Windchill® PLM software. The integration will enable Sener’s shipbuilding customers to leverage Windchill’s enterprise PLM capabilities while managing FORAN CAD data within the same PLM platform, which is ideally suited for complex, distributed and large-scale product development.

FORAN is Sener’s integrated CAD/CAM/CAE technology solution for the complete design of commercial and naval ships and offshore units, including forms definition, naval architecture calculations, hull structure, machinery, outfitting, electrical and accommodation design and manufacturing.

“With the integration to PTC’s Windchill, we are satisfying a repeated market demand and reinforcing the position of FORAN as a major player in the field of ship design and production software,” said Luis García, executive vice president of Marine-Sener. “We look forward to continuing our work with PTC, convinced that the FORAN-Windchill integration is an important asset for the shipbuilding market.”

Shipbuilders today face a multitude of challenges including the globalisation of product development and product support, increasing product complexity and product development processes, and heightened requirements for information security in accordance with ITAR and export control requirements.

“In addition to the continued development of our own CADDS 5 solution, we are providing more options for shipbuilders through this integration to Sener’s FORAN,” said Will Kohler, senior vice-president of product management at PTC. “The integration between Windchill and Sener’s FORAN supports PTC’s commitment to delivering optimal PLM solutions to shipbuilding customers.”
