Engineering and technology group SENER has appointed Jorge Sendagorta Cudós to be the head of...
SENER has developed the detail engineering of hull structure and outfitting for the escort tug that will be built at Union Naval Valencia (UNV) Shipyard. The tug belongs to a series of four, two for the ship-owner Moran Towing Corporation and the other two for Costa Azul. The scope of the project developed by SENER includes the hull forms fairing, the definition of the ship 3D model and the generation of all the necessary information for manufacturing and assembling, using its own FORAN CAD/CAM System.
The escort tug, with azimuth propulsion, has been designed for a highly efficient performance in the areas of ship-handling, escort, oil recovery and fire- fighting. The ship main particulars are 32m of length, a beam of 13,20m and a depth of 5,55m. About the design draft, it takes 4,00m while the speed is 13,5 knots. The first unit of this series, named “SMBC Monterrey” will be delivered soon.
The close collaboration between UNV and SENER began twenty years ago, and has allowed SENER to design and develop a wide variety of tugs and also other types of ship. A good example is the project developed by SENER for the new tug for high-seas towage and salvage for the Spanish SASEMAR (Maritime Salvage and Security Society).
UNV shipyard has already built a series of four sister ships and will build another series of three. The scope of the project developed by SENER included the contract, basic and detail engineering of structure and outfitting. SENER has recently developed different levels of engineering for other tugs for UNV shipyard, such as the two Voith escort tug for Grupo Boluda and another two for Shetland Island Council.
With more than 1,200 ships built to SENER design in 20 countries, the Company provides integrated and flexible solutions, with the highest level of rigour and commitment demanded by our clients, to a wide range of shipbuilders, owners and operators all over the world. SENER performs different levels of engineering with total flexibility to adapt the information to the shipbuilder practice and production facilities.
SENER provides services to shipyards and technical offices such as initial design, ship design – including contract, basic, class, detail and production engineering – repair, conversions and transformations, consultancy and technical assistance, entire projects for all types of ship and off-shore platforms.
SENER also provides services to Ship-owners: Initial design, studies of ships in operation, maintenance services, surveying and viability and technical-economic studies.
FORAN, at the forefront of technology
For their latest project project, SENER has used FORAN, its own integrated CAD/CAM System, developed over a period of more than 45 years, for the design, engineering and production of ships and which is currently licensed to more than 150 shipyards and ship design offices in 30 countries. The System covers the whole process of ship design and production: Forms, General Arrangement and Naval Architecture, Hull Structure, Outfitting, Electrical, Drawing, Design Change and Access Control, Design Review, Virtual Reality and PLM Integration.
Some of the key features of the system include:
- Integrated, robust and multi-task
- Easy to install, learn and operate; Quick and advanced modelling
- High performance, scalability and data integrity
- Open to other systems and applications
- Concurrent and distributed engineering; Automation oriented
