MSI-Defence Systems (MSI-DS) consults, designs, manufactures, delivers and supports innovative defence solutions to protect key assets from contemporary and evolving threats.

Specialising in precision engagement and weapons direction, MSI-DS has developed cross-domain weapons platforms and control systems for naval, littoral and land environments. MSI-DS systems provide layered defence capabilities against multiple state, state-sponsored and non-state threats, such as fast inshore attack craft, unmanned surface vessels and air vehicles, as well as loitering munitions such as swarms.

Multiple effector combinations for naval applications

MDI-DS platforms can be configured with numerous sensor and effector combinations to meet operator requirements. Current naval asset host platforms include capital ships, support platforms and patrol vessels, one of which is a prototype autonomous rigid inflatable boat with recognised utility and enormous growth potential across the spectrum of maritime / littoral operations. Host platform options also exist on a range of specialist land vehicles, including littoral fighting vehicles and lighter tactical platforms, such as 4 x 4s. Further proven options include containerised systems optimised for key point defence, providing a proven counter unmanned aerial vehicle hard kill solution.

MSI-DS weapons systems provide effective situational awareness through their sensors and fire control systems, optimising operator understanding and allowing the control of precision weapons engagements.

The range of available effectors includes 12.7mm heavy machine guns, 30/40mm cannon systems and surface to surface/air missiles, delivering a capability that will sense, track and defeat contemporary threats.

Easily integrated weapon systems

MSI-DS weapons systems can be deployed and operated as a single capability or integrated within a layered defence network under a combat management system. Ease of integration with combat management systems, vessel and vehicle sensors and other battle space connections is a core tenant of the MSI-DS’ design philosophy, along with increasing capability while reducing total integration costs for end users.

MSI-DS is recognised for developing, delivering and supporting weapons systems with outstanding performance and precision, which provide maximum capability in situations where size, weight and power may be limited. MSI-DS’ platforms are also readily interfaced with third-party systems and have proven capability for installation and control on remotely operated and optionally crewed platforms.

Deployable and distributed systems

The move towards more deployable and distributed systems has allowed MSI-DS to leverage its broad experience of containerised and self-contained systems. Working with partners, MSI-DS is bringing a new generation of deployable and disaggregated systems to market. These systems are designed to operate as a standalone capability or part of a network to provide a suite of sensor and effector choices offering both hard and soft kill options. MSI-DS has a focus on countering unmanned aerial vehicles in the short to medium term.

Worldwide capability and support

With hundreds of systems installed in more than 40 countries worldwide, MSI-DS has an extensive portfolio of delivered, in-service and combat-proven systems, which provide operators with the assurance of requirements met and exceeded.

End users are also assured of long-term, through-life support worldwide, with support centres in the UK and America, as well as representatives in all major regions. Customer logistic support and integrated logistic support (ILS) services are available to all customers provided by a dedicated team at our facility in the UK. MSI-DS provides extensive training for equipment operation through to full depot level maintenance. In-country depot facility management and support services are available as well as offset and tech transfer.

Leading UK-based SME

Based out of Norwich, UK, MSI-DS operates a fully integrated 16,000m² facility with research and development, design, manufacturing and support all operating from the same location. The high level of integration allows for cost-effective and rapid development of bespoke customer requirements while maintaining the deep institutional knowledge to support all our equipment worldwide, with some MSI-DS systems still in active service 40 years from delivery.

MSI-DS is an SME with more than 120 years of experience in the defence industry.  From anti-aircraft technologies in the early 1900s to battleship gun control and nuclear submarine drive technologies mid-century, MSI-DS has remained at the cutting-edge of defence technology development.
