Exide Technologies is the global leader in stored electrical energy solutions with subsidiaries in more than 80 countries. Based on over 100 years of experience in technological innovation, we are partners of original equipment manufacturers and serve the spare parts market for industrial and transportation applications.

Our Global Industrial Energy Business Unit offers an extensive range of storage products and services, including solutions for telecommunications systems, railway applications, mining, photovoltaic (solar energy), uninterruptible power supply and distribution units, forklifts, electric vehicles and military applications.

Exide Technologies takes pride in its commitment to a better environment. Its Total Battery Management program, (an integrated approach to manufacturing, distributing and recycling lead acid batteries), has been developed to ensure a safe life cycle for all of its products.

Exide Technologies batteries are the first choice in all cases where permanent availability for use is required. They meet all the demands placed on them even under extreme conditions of use.

Exide's submarine batteries have been sold worldwide under different brand names - CEAC, Hagen, Sonnak and Tudor.

Since the 1920s, Exide Technologies Industrial Energy has gained experiences in the development, manufacturing and marketing of their highly reliable submarine batteries. These submarine batteries have been sold worldwide under different brand names (CEAC, Hagen, Sonnak, Tudor), and found application in various classes of submarine, including 205, 206, 209, 212; Dolphin, Scorpene, Walrus, Kobben, Näcken, Västergötland, Gotland, UIa, TR 1700, Agosta, Daphne, Redoutable, Rubis and Triomphant.

The areas of operation of modern diesel-electric submarines are no longer just in coastal waters – long transits for many weeks on the open seas are typical today.

Exide Technologies has developed submarine propulsion batteries with low-density active materials and low-volume, high-conductivity copper negative grids (patented ‘CSM technology’), thereby achieving unsurpassable submerged sailing ranges. The latest submarine propulsion battery designs are protected from repeated underwater explosion by non-destructible shock elements. To minimize the dangerous snorkelling time the submarine propulsion batteries can be fitted with our patented ‘Bottom Lug Connection’.

Other advantages of our submarine propulsion batteries are:

  • High power density
  • Excellent life span – many batteries have been running for up to ten years and capacities of more than 100% after six years of operation is not unusual.
  • High reliability and safety
  • Minimal hydrogen evolution
  • Low maintenance
  • Prevention of overheating and electrolyte stratification
  • Thru-life warranty with technical service worldwide

  • U212 / U214 Submarines

The U212 submarine is capable of long-distance submerged passage to the area of operation. The German Navy ordered four of the submarines.

  • SSN Rubis Amethyste Class

The French Navy operates six Rubis Amethyste Class submarines from the naval base in Toulon. The submarines, built at th
