The US Navy has contracted Qwaltec to provide support services for the Navy Satellite Operations Center (NAVSOC) in Point Mugu, California.

Under the $19m satellite operations and maintenance services (SOMS) contract, Qwaltec will support the operation, management and maintenance of ground systems at NAVSOC.

The deal covers continuous, reliable and endurable global space communication in direct support of the fleet, the joint warfighter and inter-agency users, Qwaltec said in a statement.

Work under the contract will be performed at NAVSOC headquarters, located at Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC), Point Mugu, California; NAVSOC Detachment Delta, Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado Springs, Colorado; NAVSOC Detachment Alfa, Prospect Harbor, Maine; and Detachment Charlie, Finegayan, Guam.

The five-year deal will come into effect this month.

NAVSOC is a component command of the Naval Network Warfare Command, operating under the guidance of US Fleet Cyber Command (FLTCYBERCOM) / US 10th Fleet (10F).

It is responsible for managing, operating and maintaining assigned satellite systems to provide reliable satellite services to the joint warfighter in support of naval and national requirements.

Qwaltec provides mission readiness, spacecraft operations, technical training, systems engineering and programme management support to a variety of government and commercial customers, primarily within the aerospace and defence industry.
