Rockwell Collins has delivered the 40,000th ARC-210 radio to the US military strengthening the communication capabilities of the force.

In 2014, Rockwell Collins was awarded a $420m, four-year contract by the US Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) to continue delivering the ARC-210 advanced airborne software defined radio (SDR) system to equip the US and international aircraft.

US Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) Air Combat Electronics (PMA-209) programme manager Candace Chesser said: “The delivery of the 40,000th radio continues a 25-year relationship between Rockwell Collins and the US Navy on the ARC-210 programme a model for government-industry teaming.

“This radio, which has continued to evolve with the needs of the navy, is the standard for multi-band, multi-mode communications and plays a key role in allowing joint and coalition forces to communicate in various theatres of operations worldwide.”

Certified by the National Security Agency (NSA) with tactical secure voice (TSV) 2, the ARC-210 Generation 5 (Gen5) SDR provides joint precision approach and landing system (JPALS) UHF data link, SATCOM integrated waveform and combat net radio capabilities.

The ARC-210 Gen5 radio features a software-defined multi-waveform architecture, which is an optimised software communications architecture embedded with programmable next-generation crypto and extended frequencies to 941MHz.

Currently, the ARC-210 radio is deployed on more than 200 platform variants across the world and is installed on a range of aircraft and helicopters across all US military services and the US Coast Guard.
