Raytheon Company has received a contract from the US Navy to produce National Security Agency (NSA) certified next-generation encryption devices to help protect tactical data transmissions.

Under the $32m contract, the company will produce Link Level Communication Security 7M encryptor (LLC 7M) that will help safeguard the Link 22 tactical radio system used by the US military and its allies.

The contract includes a five-year base performance period with an additional five-year option, which if exercised could bring the cumulative value of the contract to $63m.

The LLC 7M has received the NSA's only Type 1 certification for information protection that is classified up to the Secret level in the Link 22 environment.

Being developed by the US Navy's Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command, the LLC 7M is as part of the Nato improved link eleven (NILE) project, which is funded and collaboratively conducted by Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK.
