UK-based Cohort company division SEA has attained factory acceptance for its initial sets of torpedo launcher systems (TLS) and weapons handling systems from an undisclosed South East Asian naval force.
The systems will be installed on board a new class of 111m-long combatant vessels, which are currently under construction.

SEA worked in collaboration with Malaysia-based project engineering managers Budi Axis to attain acceptance for the first weapons handling system in the country. Acceptance was ultimately completed at SEA's factory in Devon, UK.
The entire six sets of weapons handling systems will be produced in Malaysia in collaboration of SEA and Budi Axis, while development of the system's electronics will also be progressively carried out in the country over the six-ship sets.
SEA’s torpedo launchers will feature a pair of triple configuration, composite tubes that are installed just aft of midships on the combatant vessels. The launchers are compatible with all lightweight Nato standard-sized torpedoes.
The electronics suite offers calculation of a fire control solution, predicting target position from the sonar and the vessel’s data.

By GlobalDataSEA Launcher business manager Eric Abretti said: “The modular nature of the system means that by utilising a common tube selection panel as part of the combat management system, the fire control electronics can be adapted to interface with the ship’s decoy launchers, as well as the TLS.”
The company’s weapons handling system in the ship’s magazine enables the storage of lightweight torpedoes, depth charges and air-launched missiles in shock mounted racking, and transports them through trolleys to on-deck launchers or the helicopter hangar.
