The multinational humanitarian assistance and disaster relief preparedness exercise Pacific Partnership 2022 (PP22) has concluded aboard the US Navy’s hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19).
A closing ceremony was conducted on 10 September to mark the conclusion of the exercise.

The 17th iteration of PP22 exercise opened in Honiara, Solomon Islands on 29 August.
This was also the first time the US Navy deployed its hospital ship Mercy to Solomon Islands to serve as the mission platform.
The exercise was conducted to bolster cooperation among various countries, including the host nations, the US, Australia and Japan.

The mission was executed in coordination with the host nation, as per the requirements of the Solomon Islands.
During the two-week period, the PP22 team carried out various discussions on humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, engineering projects, medical care and exchanges, along with other community outreach programmes.
The mission involved over 50 surgeries, 4,500 dental procedures, 5,800 medical engagements, 80 consultations with local pet owners, distributed around 1,000 eyeglasses, as well as a humanitarian aid and disaster relief workshop.
All the efforts were conducted in coordination with the Solomon Islands National Disaster Management Office.
Apart from Honiara, the PP22 team also conducted medical and engineering activities in Guadalcanal Province, Gizo and Malaita.
Starting from Vietnam, this year’s mission included stops in Palau, the Philippines, Fiji and Papua New Guinea.
