It is designed to provide 3D long-range maritime surveillance for the Philippine Navy’s next-generation multi-purpose surface combatant ships.

The radar system has been developed by the company’s subsidiary ELTA Systems.

Under the agreement, the company will integrate the radar system with the new ship’s combat management system (CMS) to provide several advanced multi-mission capabilities to the Philippine Navy.

The CMS will be supplied by Hanwha Systems as part of a contract secured in March this year.

In December last year, HHI received a contract from the Philippine Department of National Defense (DND) to deliver two new corvettes for the Philippines Navy.

IAI vice-president and ELTA CEO Yoav Tourgeman said: “This agreement is a testament to IAI’s close partnership and cooperation with Hyundai and the defence ecosystem in Asia.

“Incorporating IAI’s pioneering AESA technology on the Philippine Navy’s new ships highlights the trust that the Philippine Navy and Hyundai Heavy Industries have placed in IAI.

“We are honoured to be an integral part of this important programme and supply our operational, combat-proven systems to our friends in Asia.”

The modular built ALPHA radar system is cost-effective and features a completely digital software-driven architecture. This allows the installation of upgrades in the future to tackle new threats.

It can be installed on a wide range of naval vessels including offshore patrol vessel (OPV), corvettes and frigates.

The ALPHA 3D radar system belongs to ELTA’s MF-STAR radar family, which was integrated with the Israeli Navy’s Sa’ar corvettes in 2021.
