The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has notified Congress of the potential foreign military sale (FMS) of eight MH-60R multi-mission helicopters to Spain.
The estimated $950m FMS has been approved by the US State Department and includes associated equipment and support.

In addition, the deal includes four airborne low frequency sonars (ALFS), LAU-61 digital rocket launchers, 32 AGM-114R(N) Hellfire missiles, APS-153(V) multimode radars, 20 T-700-GE-401C engines, 100 WGU-59/B Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) II Guidance Sections, and eight Link 16 Multifunctional Information Distribution Systems Joint Tactical Radio Systems (MIDS JTRS) among many other related elements.
As part of this sale package, Spain has also requested to provide training personnel, training equipment, US Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services.
The principal contractor of this FMS will be Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems.
The agency noted that two contractor representatives could possibly be assigned to Spain for sale implementation.

By GlobalDataIn a statement, DSCA said: “This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a NATO ally which is an important force for political stability and economic progress in Europe.”
Once added to the Spanish naval fleet, the MH-60R helicopters will be deployed to conduct anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare missions.
The helicopter can also be used to carry out combat search and rescue, communication, vertical replenishment, surveillance, and relay missions.
The proposed sale will help Spain to defeat existing and future threats while improving interoperability with the US and the Nato alliance.
Last year, the US delivered the first batch of two MH-60R units to the Indian Navy.
