The US Navy has taken delivery of the next generation landing craft, Ship to Shore Connector (SSC), Land Craft, Air Cushion (LCAC) 102.
The craft will provide the US Navy with rapid transport capability and flexibility to move critical supplies. They will mainly be used to move weapon systems, equipment, cargo, and personnel of the assault elements through diverse environmental conditions.

With a 30-year service life, the vehicles can travel at a sustained speed of 35k and offer an increased payload of around 60t to 70t.
Program Executive Office (PEO) Ships Amphibious Warfare Programs programme manager captain Cedric McNeal said: “SSC provides the navy and Marine Corps team with the capability and capacity needed to execute a range of complex missions with agility and speed.
“With increases in performance and reliability, this next generation craft will meet the needs of the fleet for years to come.”
Developed with similar configurations, dimensions, and clearances to the older LCAC, SSCs ensure compatibility with existing amphibious ships and Expeditionary Transfer Dock and Expeditionary Sea Bases.

According to the US Navy, the SSC programme is now in serial production with LCACs 103-115.
In August last year, the US Navy took delivery of the SSC, LCAC 101 from Textron Systems.
The LCAC production models 100 and 101 are in the initial operator training pipeline.
Currently, they are in post-delivery test and trials at Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division (NSWC PCD).
